This tapestry's imagery
combines the 4 seasons with lore of the Southwest. The clients appreciate
the beauty of their Colorado home, and collect Southwestern artifacts.
One bit of lore is that brilliant blue frames on doors and windows will
keep the home safe from evil spirits. In researching ideas for this piece,
I became interested in the simple carved cottonwood kachinas pre-1940.
The kachina you see walking into the blue frame is Palhik Mana, a kachina
of harvest/plenty. The tapestry is finished in traditional rugging techniques
to further integrate with the home's folk art and handcrafted Southwestern
architecture. |
