The studio
is a simple and classic loadbearing strawbale structure (no wood in
walls; walls about 20" thick.): great safety flexing in earthquake country,
plus an R-value of 55! Heat is radient heat tubing in floor.
I designed and was owner-builder on this project. I worked on every part of
the construction, including sledgehammering rebar into bale walls as they
were constructed, installing roof joists, and shingling the roof. The image
of me on roof is putting in the final shingle cap on the last hipped roof
ridge. After that, it was champagne all around!
